Digital tools can help address market inefficiencies in the agricultural space by fixing imbalances in information representation and access, strengthening communication across value chains, and empowering a more diverse group of actors to participate in the sector. A lack of digital literacy among producers—including smallholder farmers—and other value chain actors inhibits their ability to maximize value from digital devices and services. As digital tools become a key enabler for functioning agricultural and food security systems, the ability of stakeholders to understand, access, and use digital tools will be critical to the success of digitally enabled interventions.
